Don’t worry too much, you figure it out as you go :)

I graduated from Waterloo ECE very recently. It always surprises me how much of a role alcohol used to play in engineering culture at Waterloo. I don’t know when that went away, probably around when Bomber shut down, or when weed was legalized, but I sometimes feel I went to a completely different university.

Sounds brutal. I wish I were there.

Waterloo grads need to stay in Canada and start companies. The blatant lack of respect of the education they receive there is shocking.

Are you willing to take US$60k/year starting salary for roughly the same COL as Austin, Texas, but with a 40% income tax rate?
The Canadian govt has decided our economy needs to specialize in very cheap software consulting that is primarily outsourced from the USA, so we're bringing in hundreds of thousands of people a year to graduate from "IT" programs at a rate that leaves them with no marketable skills. This saturates the labour force with low-productivity programmers.

As someone currently in the first year university application process (and applying to Waterloo), this blog post is really insightful. It’s a little bit daunting and reassuring at the same time - I’m not sure how to feel about the challenges ahead.
