There's a maintained version of the codebase at https://github.com/idiap/coqui-ai-TTS. The model is dead though, due to the license.

yes, or if you are looking for a cheap Kokoro TTS API I would recommend https://www.lemonfox.ai/text-to-speech-api

Zonos and Fish Audio are two other new options.

This is a spam website that was not created by the people who created Coqui TTS. This is the original: https://github.com/coqui-ai/TTS

The original has great documentation if you want to train your own model.
The original Python package (TTS) is abandoned, but a fork that works with the latest python is just a “pip install coqui-tts” away

I couldn't find anything on the site relating to donations, and it doesn't have commercial restrictions nor a clear major company backing it. I wonder where the funding is coming from.

It was originally run by a company that also offered a platform, but it has since shut down. Not sure of the source of this new site

Is there anything new here? I thought this pretty much is dead. Most models available in Sherpa onnx and piper right?

Piper is also dead, though it's also still the best option for local TTS on low-spec devices.
Kokoro is probably best local TTS overall if your target platform and hardware support it.

Piper isn’t dead. I know because I’ve been working with the team recently

Could you ask them to look at my open PR then? The macOS build has been broken for well over a year: https://github.com/rhasspy/piper/pull/678

Kokoro is missing a lot of relevant languages.

This is dead. I recommend Kokoro TTS https://huggingface.co/spaces/hexgrad/Kokoro-TTS
