Why? I totally get not wanting to subsidize it using taxpayer money, not wanting to abandon any other existing or planned infrastructure in favor of it etc., but what do citizens gain by not having legal access to backup infrastructure? It doesn't seem like OneWeb is a viable alternative at this point, so banning the only existing solution seems like a bad idea.
You could also ask the people of Saint Helena or the Falkland Islands how they like their respective government bans.

Are they going to annex it too?

Oh, so this is to access the huge Faeroese market. Definitely not for ... creative accounting ... purposes.

even if it was, nation states are in competition with each other to attract business and capital. some jurisdictions are able to balance their budget by successfully doing that. its for nation states to remember, not citizens to show fealty towards
and in that subcontinent, patriotism is often seen as a negative trait outside of football matches
> Now the intention is that Faroese households and businesses can also access this service - subject to approval from the Faroese authorities.
One would hope the Faroese administration would put this on ice until the US administration quits its threats to the sovereignty of their fellow autonomous Danish territory of Greenland...
