I suggest to remember a thing: Democracy to exist demand Demos, not passive people. Yet most citizens (not in SF but in the whole world) are passive consumers not much active Demos. In their own mind.
So it's not a matter or good or evil etc but a matter of time for a transition from formal democracies (who are not substantial since long time) to became formal dictatorships.
