Eh, it's fine. I learned about a video game series with a cult following I never knew existed, which isn't life-altering but passes the interesting bar for me.
Another detail I personally found interesting is the (brief) discussion of what performance scaling options Unreal Engine 5 presents to developers, and what they pass through to users in the menus, and how the game deviates from that. This is something I'd be interested to see more exploration of actually.
As a data point sample in how the roll-out of UE5 into the market is going and how various types of games perform in practice it's also interesting. UE was originally better known as a game engine for FPS and similar games. I know there's a number of racing games using it in the pipe, but it still feels a bit novel to see a racing game built on Unreal.

On top of that, it's Unreal Engine, so it's almost guaranteed to perform good and look stunning on pretty much all modern hardware.

That's the point here, running on very outdated hardware.

I know it is discouraged to discuss this, but it is kinda weird that it made it this high on the front page.

IKR. Odd to see!

Thanks for bringing my attention to the revival of this game. TXR2 was my favorite Dreamcast game growing up, and it seems like early reviews suggest that this new game brings back the same feeling of the originals.

Glad to hear that a stable 60 is possible on the steam deck. Racing games are, for me, some of my favorites to play handheld.

any advice on what's the best out there? have never really been too into them, but I would like to be.

Welp. I may need to get back into gaming.

I thought this was going to be a technical review that goes into detail about the rendering pipeline or something, this is just a "how does this arbitrary video game perform with different settings" kind of review, not really HN front page worthy?
