Color Comparison Between E Ink's Spectra 6 and ChLCD

rendaw

Iris-opt seems to be pioneering ChLCD so there's probably some bias here, but I'd never heard of ChLCD before and it looks great.

There are some more examples here https://www.genetouch.com/page/news/show.aspx?num=74&lang=US

Is Spectra 6 the current top contender from E-Ink? I can never figure out their lineup. Not Gallery Plus?

I think it depends on the use case. My understanding is the more popular panels for color ereaders releasing now are the E Ink Kaleido (3) due to their faster refresh rates. Other technologies like spectra 6 may be better for digital signage where the slower refresh rate is less of a concern.

I'm really interested in art frames using any kind of technology like this. Spectra 6 seems a bit too expensive for the quality, so I'm curious to see how frames with ChLCD will end up performing (and at which price point).

CES 2026 will probably be very interesting in that regard.

So Spectra 6 makes black, white, red, yellow, blue, and green from white, red, yellow, and blue primaries.

So green is presumably blue plus yellow? If so, why not get purple from blue plus red? Presumably some additive versus subtractive thing but I don’t get it.

Interesting but what is th cost compared to the spectra 6?
