Thanks for the feedback on the title. First time I heard about Papier, I just took a look and I really liked the idea.

Incredible coincidence. I was making a new tab extension for myself today. Well, more accurately, I was making ChatGPT and Claude to make a new tab extension for me. Wonder if this is frequency bias or just an incredible coincidence.
I think Chrome should include a way for users to customize their home page a lot more - with custom greetings, calendar, tasks, etc integration.

Arguably the most minimalistic new tab page is a blank one ;)
It does look quite clean for what it is. Cool work!

This was my use case, I created a stupid simple blank web page that I set as my new tab page: https://aboutblank.page (source: https://github.com/sphars/about-blank)

The "source" link on the background image links to a tumblr that obviously stole it from somewhere else with no credit. Almost!

It uses graphics and movie snippets from Ghibli Studio movies, I wondering if this does not stretch fair use rules.

I'll check it out. I thought it would be ok because I saw other chrome new tab extensions doing the same with more users than I have.

nice, is it open source?
this is the one i use for those who like having bookmarks on their new tab page:

Im planning to make it open source, not super proud of my code right now. I first made it using JS + Material UI: https://github.com/reynnan/lofi-tab a few years ago
and now I'm rewritting it using TS + tailwind and daisyui but its not open source

Minimalistical
Beauty isn't why people install chrome extensions. A better title would be "beautiful and minimalistic Chrome new tab page".
I personally prefer extensions that replace the new tab page with a note taking canvas. Papier was the perfect mix of simplicity, configurability and design. It unfortunately is no longer available due to its incompatibility with the V3 manifest.
